PAVILION G7 1219

While the G7 line is clearly HP's budget or entry level product, this cannot and should not justify the poor finish quality this buyer experinced when trying to find one example of this model that didn't contain some sort of product flaw.It literally took a few dozen purchases and returns before finding one that didn't bear signs of various flaws or blubs in the keyboard bezels, misaligned mouse buttons, keyboards that rattled or had sticky keys, noisy hard drives (mostly Hitachi's), binding optical drive doors, poorly finished bottom cases and top covers that were scratched or flawed in some way.How these ever passed QC at the factory simply amazes. Why would someone continue to pursue this model as I did? Two reasons:1) Notwithstanding the quality issues, it is otherwise a fine unit that offers sufficient speed and features for this user, and,

2) Although its price ranged considerably during this period, I was able to locate mine at $449, a $150 to $250 savings over its 'normal' price and well below most similarly equipped 17inch notebooks.

great deal

The keyboard is too busy, containing a numeric key pad which I never use, that squeezes the typewriter portion of the keyboard too far to the left, so that my hands always seem to be placed improperly when attempting to type.I am bothered by the glue remnants of the arrogantly placed MS and Intel logo stickers that I removed from the keyboard - I guess I will need to buy some alcohol to clean off that sticky mess. The watered-down MS Office software supplied with the machine is definitely inadequate for my use, so I have downloaded the free OpenOffice and Thunderbird (with Lightning) software, which satisfy my needs for word processing, spreadsheet, email processor, and calendar applications.

Of course, the machine with its lightning fast CPU, coupled with its much more than adequate 6GB of RAM make the machine almost too fast to use - I often don't realize my last click has done anything since the machine responds so fast.
