Mini 210 Netbook vs All Tablets

This system is well worth a look if you need; portability, great speed and good quality components that all work great together. It is slightly heavier than my other netbook, but this appears to be a solid system. Performance is very good.

So far no low points to note except with W7 and that's not HP's problem.

Packs A Punch

1. Color. I am delighted that the product is available in purple, this had a huge influence on my decision. Silly but true.2. Hard drive at 250 gigs is more than enough, I can't imagine why a person would upgrade unless storing a LOT of pictures.3. Per other reviews, do upgrade the RAM, you'll want the speed for streaming (I am listening to a local radio station right now).4. Per other reviews, upgrade to Windows Professional, unless you want the bare bones version.5. I did not add Blue Tooth so can't comment.6. The camera/video feature was a surprise and is a fun although completely nonessential enhancement. I am enjoying exploring Skype, as there is a built-in web cam.7. Unless you plan on using the machine as your back-up or mobile system for Microsoft Windows apps, save yourself a lot of cost and install Open Office, which is very robust and can handle converting files from/to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.8. I did not upgrade the monitor but am happy with what I see.9. The keyboard is 93% size and this is an important feature to me, as I can type over 100 wpm, so typing on a touchpad is painful. The home keys have the reassuring ridge and the keys have a good "touch."10. As other reviews state, the touchpad mouse is off center to the left, which can be a bit disorienting. I suspect the reason they designed it this way was to line it up under the space bar. It is simple to disable without going into the system settings and with three USB ports, there is "room" for a wireless mouse (purple of course).12. Battery life: I think the estimate of 8 hours maximum is a bit optimistic, depending on what you are doing, but realistically the battery will last around 4-5 hours.13. Card reader. The card reader can handle SD cards but it is not a "15 in 1."14. CD drive. There is no CD drive but I'm guessing a $50 purchase will remedy that. The trade off is weight and size and is worth it.15. Preinstalled software. The preinstalled software is kept to a minimum and includes the requisite Explorer and Norton (there is a free 60 Norton trial, very useful for getting connected immediately). In summary, if you need a compact PC that is more functional than a touchpad and more like a laptop, this machine is an excellent option. Do not expect a full-size monitor, this is a netbook after all and it is supposed to be small. At three pounds, it easily tucks into my backpack when I'm out and about.

Note that I downloaded the Kindle app for PCs so while it's no touchpad, in a pinch while stuck in some dreary airport, I will have something to read.
